Nighat Dad

Lawyer & Founder, Digital Rights Foundation Member of UN Secretary General`s Advisory Board on AI

Nighat Dad is the founder and Executive Director of the Digital Rights Foundation, a Lahore-based nonprofit focusing on issues of online free speech, privacy, and digital safety. She is also member of the UN Secretary General's Advisory Board on AI. Dad is a passionate advocate of gender equity and religious freedom and stands firmly for advocating on issues of platform accountability and tech-facilitated gender-based violence. Her decade-long experience and activism in the field have led her to currently serve as a member of the Facebook independent Oversight Board. Dad and her team have also initiated a pro-bono network of lawyers in Pakistan called 'Ab Aur Nahi' (no more, no longer) who offer help and support to survivors of harassment and violence as an organic response to heightened requests she received for assistance. She is a TED Fellow, a recipient of the Dutch Human Rights Tulip Award, and a TIME's Next Generation Leader.
