Hamza Farrukh

Founder & President, Bondh E Shams and Vice President, Goldman Sachs

Hamza Farrukh is Founder and President of Bondh E Shams, a water-tech charity that has provided an estimated 65 Million cups of clean water to last-mile villages in Asia, the Middle East, and Africa using a unique solar powered water solution. Farrukh designed a cost-effective, all-in-one water extraction, filtration and storage system called the Solar Water Box. This IKEA-style system can be shipped around the world to be deployed in under seven minutes and is already proving safe water to villages, refugee camps and disaster-affected zones in Pakistan, South Sudan, Yemen, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh. Most recently, the Solar Water Box helped save lives in Pakistan during the 2022 flooding where this device converted flood water to clean, drinking water. For his work, Farrukh was listed on the Forbes 30under30 Social Entrepreneurs list in 2018, received the Princess Diana Award in 2019, and was also awarded the Points of Light Award by the late Queen Elizabeth II. A graduate of the Williams College, Massachusetts, Farrukh's sustainability work is complemented by his seven years of applied financial experience in macro trading at Goldman Sachs where he currently serves as a Vice President its London office.
