Mahnaz Rahman has been working as Resident Director at Aurat Foundation’s regional office in Karachi, since 2010. She is a prominent activist of women’s rights and socio-political issues, with a journalistic background. Having attended conferences, trainings and delegations on international human rights charters and conventions, as well as human rights advocacy, Mahnaz has extensive global exposure across USA, Asia and Europe. She was the first female President of the employees’ union of a newspaper and Senior Joint Secretary of KUJ (Karachi Union of Journalists) for two terms in 1983-84. She was honoured with the Friendship Medal by the Prime Minister of People’s Republic of China, in 1991 for promoting friendship between the two countries, through her writings. Mahnaz is also a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award (2020) by the Sindh Commission on Status of Women - Government of Sindh.
