Hina Rabbani Khar

Former Foreign Minister of Pakistan

Hina Rabbani Khar has been an elected Member of Parliament twice and served as the 26th Foreign Minister of Pakistan. Her term is best remembered for the ‘Regional Pivot’ to Pakistan’s foreign policy where she concentrated on building ties with Pakistan’s immediate neighbours. Trade relations were initiated with India while Pakistan pursued a policy of reaching out to all political parties, and ethnicities in Afghanistan. Pakistan also had an active role in the Afghan led and Afghan owned process of reconciliation. In a difficult time of increasing economic sanctions, Pakistan pursued cementing ties with Iran. Hina Rabbani Khar also served as Minister of State for Economic Affairs for four years and Minister of State for Finance and Economic Affairs for another two years. During these years, she was the lead person in Pakistan’s economic diplomacy, both bilateral and multilateral.
