Kamila Shamsie

Novelist, Writer

Ms Kamila Shamsie is the author of six novels. Her first novel, In the City by the Sea, received the Prime Minister’s Award for Literature from the Pakistan Academy of Letters. Two later novels - Kartography and Broken Verses - received the Patras Bukhari Award, also from the Pakistan Academy of Letters. Her fifth novel, Burnt Shadows, has been translated into more than 20 languages and was shortlisted for the Orange Prize for Fiction. Ms Shamsie’s most recent novel, A God in Every Stone, was shortlisted for the DSC Award for South Asian Fiction, and the Bailey’s Prize for Fiction. She is a recipient of the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature (UK), and one of Granta’s ‘Best of Young British Novelists’. She has written columns for a number of publications including Dawn, Newsline, Herald, The Guardian and the New York Times. Ms Shamsie grew up in Karachi, and now lives in London.
