Dr Mujtaba Piracha

Ambassador of Pakistan to the World Trade Organisation (WTO)

Dr Mujtaba Piracha is an officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service and has served as Commissioner of Lahore Division, and Provincial Secretary for Commerce, Industries and Skills Development Department in the Government of the Punjab. His most recent assignment was as Additional Chief Secretary (Services Economy), Government of the Punjab. He has almost 25 years of experience in public management, public-private partnerships, public sector reform, policy making and implementation. His book ‘Property Taxes and State Incapacity in Pakistan’, published by the Oxford University Press, won the Bloomsbury Pakistan Book Prize in 2022. Dr Piracha holds a PhD in Development Studies from the Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex, and graduated from the London School of Economics and Political Science, UK.
