Dr Saulat Fatimi

Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon & Professor of Surgery, Aga Khan University Hospital

Saulat H. Fatimi, MD, is Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon and Professor of Surgery at the Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH). He is American Board certified in General Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery. Dr Fatimi specialises in minimally invasive thoracic surgery. As the Service Line Chief at AKUH, he led the cardiac services to be the top-performing unit. Under his guidance, the hospital introduced two cardiac procedures, conducted for the first time in the region. He was named the Service Line Chief of the Year for his contributions. With over 150 publications in peer reviewed publications, Dr Fatimi serves on multiple institutional, national and international committees and scientific advisory boards, and has held memberships at the American Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons and the Pakistan Cardiac Society, amongst others. Recently, he was also elected as a voting member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS). Dr Fatimi and his team have recently developed a simulator for training cardiac surgery residents on beating bovine hearts using innovative methods and indigenous affordable equipment. This simulator is the first of its kind and is pending patent approval in Pakistan and in the US. A graduate of the Aga Khan University, Dr Fatimi completed his General Surgery training at the University of Tennessee Hospitals at Memphis, Tennessee and fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery at St. Louis University Hospital, Missouri.
