Waqas A Qazi

Satellite Scientist

Dr Waqas Qazi is an expert in the processing and analysis of satellite earth observation imagery to study and understand the land and oceans of the Earth. He holds a doctorate from the University of Colorado, Boulder, CO, USA. He has been an Assistant Professor for many years at the Institute of Space Technology (IST), Islamabad, Pakistan, where he initiated the Radar Remote Sensing group, and was one of the founders of the Geospatial Research and Education Lab (GREL) (http://grel.ist.edu.pk). He has been affiliated also with Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden as a Visiting Researcher. Currently, he is the MetOcean R & D Manager at Offshore Monitoring Ltd. (http://www.offshoremonitoring.com), where he leads the technical research and development for cutting-edge solutions and products involving earth observation data for the maritime domain. Waqas has many scientific publications, conference talks, and technical workshops to his credit, and is also a reviewer for some of the leading scientific journals in his field. He is an alumnus of Pakistan National Physics Talent Contest (NPTC), an alumnus of the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings, a Fulbright alumnus, and has been the Pakistan National Point of Contact for Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC).
