Kishwar Naheed

Senior Urdu Poet

Ms Kishwar Naheed, one of the best-known feminist poets of Pakistan was born in Uttar Pradesh, India, and migrated with her family to Lahore during the Partition in 1947. She received a high school diploma through correspondence courses and went on to obtain a Master of Arts degree in Economics from Punjab University, Lahore. Her first collection of poetry, Lab-i-Goya, published in 1968, won the prestigious Adamjee Prize for Literature. She has been the recipient of numerous prestigious awards including the government’s civil award, Sitara-e-Imtiaz in 2000. She was one of the 1000 women nominated worldwide for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2005.
